Sarah Teather thanked local carers for all their hard work

Local Liberal Democrat Brent East MP Sarah Teather has joined the Afro-Caribbean Carers Association to mark this year's National Carers Week and celebrate the contribution made by people in Brent who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled.
The annual event raises awareness of carers - people who look after a sick or disabled friend, partner or relative - and issues that affect them. Thousands of events have taken place up and down the country to give carers a break ad highlight the support available to them.
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:
"There are thousands of people in Brent who sacrifice their time - and often their health, finances, work and social life - to care for a loved one. They deserve to be recognised for the priceless contribution they make to both our local community and to our society.
"Caring can be demanding and difficult as well as rewarding, so it's important that carers know that they don't have to struggle on alone. There is lots of help and support available, and I would urge anyone in Brent who looks after a friend, relative or partner to contact a local carers group.
"Those that give help and support to family or friends, while asking for nothing in return, are the unsung heroes of Brent. It's great that National Carers Week gives us the opportunity to thank Brent's carers for everything that they do."
