Shereen Nasser and Tom Brake meet Minister about Shereen's husband detained in Iraq

5.32.19pm GMT Wed 11th Mar 2009

Bill Rammell MP, Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, met Shereen Nasser, a Carshalton resident, and Tom Brake MP at the Foreign Office on Monday to discuss the case of Mrs Nasser's husband, Mr Al-Sarraj.

Mr Al-Sarraj is currently detained in Camp Cropper, a detention facility run by the Amercians for the Iraqis in Baghdad. He is alleged to have made a timing device for a bomb but states he has evidence to prove it is an electronic component to measure cardiac output.

After the meeting with the Minister, Tom commented:

'The meeting was surprisingly positive.

'The Minister promised to follow up a couple of lines of enquiry and report back to us in a couple of weeks' time. This is more than we had expected and gives us some hope.

Tom and Shereen Nasser are now seeking an urgent meeting with the Iraqi Ambassador in London to discuss Mr Al-Sarraj's case.
