MP Welcomes Hammersmith Bus Station Review5.03.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 21st Apr 2008 At a meeting last week with Transport for London at Hammersmith Bus station, Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park, and Geoff Pope, London Assembly Member, got agreement that some of the difficulties at the new temporary bus station would be reviewed. Susan Kramer MP said: "Hundreds of people on our side of the river are signing my petition for a redesign of the new interim bus station at Hammersmith. "People are being discouraged from using buses thanks to the inconvenience of the new layout. "The mistakes could have been avoided by consultation with Richmond Council or bus passengers from our side of the river." "I am pleased that TfL is going to look again at these arrangements, and I will continue to push for a proper shelter from the elements, a proper walkway and logical arrangements of stops at Hammersmith." TfL has now agreed to: · Install a handrail in the walkway to the new bus station · Re-examine the allocation of buses such as the 209, 283 and 419 to different stops so that passengers who can use any of the three buses are not racing between stops. · Reconsider installing a cover across the pedestrian area. This was in the original plans for the bus station but was removed by Hammersmith Council planners. · Re-examine the timetable for installing electronic bus arrival information on the services which cross Hammersmith Bridge which could at least allow people to wait for their bus inside and then go to the right bus stop.
