Immediate, Impartial Inquiry Needed Into Heathrow Collusion Claims - Kramer

11.27.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 11th Mar 2008

Commenting on recent leaked documents that reveal BAA and the Government colluded to 'fix' environmental evidence to allow approval of plans for a third runway at Heathrow, Susan Kramer MP said: "These revelations are extremely worrying."

"There are many questions that the Government must answer about who was involved in the many meetings between BAA and the Government, and why evidence about the environmental and noise impact of expansion appears to have been altered to get the 'right' results."

"These documents further weaken the Government's case for expansion, and provide more and more evidence that it is determined to go ahead with expansion despite the weight of scientific evidence and the opinion of millions of Londoners against it."

"I am calling for an immediate root and branch inquiry into why BAA was allowed so much involvement in Government plans, and into why evidence was altered."

Notes

The documents were discovered by Justine Greening MP, who obtained them using Freedom of Information requests.
