Heathrow Should Not Be Expanded Further - Kramer

12.26.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 21st Nov 2007

Ahead of the launch of the public consultation into further expansion of Heathrow airport, the Liberal Democrats have demanded that the Government listen to the concerns of local residents.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, Susan Kramer MP said:

"These plans could see the number of flights from Heathrow doubled to 800,000 per year, making a mockery of any attempts to tackle climate change. Expanding the airport further will also cause serious noise problems for residents across London.

"BAA tried and failed to silence campaigners over the summer and now it's time for ministers to listen to the public and stop any further Heathrow expansion."

Notes

On Thursday 22nd November, Susan Kramer will attend Greenpeace's 'Stop Heathrow Expansion' protest on Richmond Green at 12.30.
