Victory for Residents Over Old Power Station

11.08.31am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 20th Nov 2007

Twickenham residents have won a major planning battle with the rejection of a second planning appeal by a developer seeking to convert the century-old power station in Hamilton Road into flats.

The council supported residents in order to preserve a fine piece of industrial architecture.

Vincent Cable, MP, who has supported residents in their battle with the developer, said that "this was a piece of gross over development trying to pack more houses into an area of very high density where parking is already virtually impossible. It was important too to preserve the character of the area including this find old building. The residents were well organised and put up a terrific fight".
