Brake on the Beat in Carshalton Beeches10.45.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 11th Nov 2007
An extra pair of hands was provided on the beat on Friday afternoon when Tom Brake joined the Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) in Carshalton Beeches. Tom joined Mario and Dan on their patrol from Wallington Police Station (where the SNT was provided with the latest intelligence on recent crimes or problems in the ward) along Stafford Road, Stanley Park Road, Gordon Road, Beeches Avenue, Courtney Crescent and to the Orchard Hill site. Tom said, "There is nothing like patrolling with a team like Mario and Dan to get a real feel for how effective the Safer Neighbourhood Teams are proving to be. They were recognised everywhere we went and had really detailed knowledge about all the local goings-on." As well as being briefed on local police initiatives, Tom was also able to talk to Dan and Mario about their roles, how their SNT cooperates with other SNTs and the British Transport Police and the policing of large local events. Each ward in Sutton now has its SNT and they have been joined recently by two dedicated parks' teams.
