Drive to use Bus Concessions

5.57.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 15th Nov 2007

Hundreds of local residents who depend on income support may be missing out on a Transport for London scheme providing 50% concessional fares, in August, TfL launched the scheme, aimed at people on low incomes who do not currently qualify for the bus pass. But many seem to be unaware of it.

Vincent Cable, MP, is backing a campaign to raise awareness of the scheme: "all Londoners are eligible and the concession will be especially valuable for carers, the long term sick and disable, such as the mentally ill, who an not get a concessional bus pass, and some lone parents. The Mayor, Ken Livingstone, has managed to strike a deal to obtain low cost fuel and this is where the money is going, I hope that families which genuinely need help will apply. I have a limited number of application forms in my office in Twickenham. To obtain one, please telephone 8892 0215".
