Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather has backed the Football Association's bid for the World Cup to come to Brent. The FA have confirmed that they will bid for the World Cup competition to be staged in the UK in 2018. If their bid is successful the final would almost certainly be staged at Wembley.
The UK previously made an attempt to stage the tournament in 2006, but lost out to Germany.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"The World Cup would be great for the country and great for Brent. We could expect a massive amount of money to be poured into our local area during the tournament, as well as opportunities for local children to get involved in sport.
"Wembley is the biggest and best stadium in the country and deserves to host a prestigious international event such as the World Cup. The eyes of the world would be on Brent for the final.
"I will be doing all I can to support the bid and hope that everyone in the local community will get behind Brent for 2018."
