Brown writing UK out of European anti-terrorist capability - Ludford

1.12.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 18th Oct 2007

London Liberal Democrat MEP Baroness Sarah Ludford has attacked Gordon Brown for his blinkered 'red lines' approach on justice matters in the revised European Reform Treaty.

Commenting on Brown's aim for British opt-outs from EU cooperation on justice and policing as well as borders matters, Sarah Ludford, who is British Liberal Democrat European justice spokeswoman said:

"What will be billed as a triumph is actually a tragedy. For Britain to write itself out of the script of EU cooperation to fight crime and terrorism and control migration is fundamentally against the real interests of the British people."

"Our citizens are paying a high price in undermining the international fight for their own security, all because of Gordon Brown's desire to appease tabloid hysteria."
