Burstow on his bike with Smarter Travel Sutton6.24.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 15th May 2007
Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, took part in a charity cycle ride and visited a roadshow promoting the Smarter Travel Sutton project on Sunday. The Smarter Travel Sutton project, funded by Transport for London, aims to reduce traffic congestion by encouraging people to walk, cycle and use public transport. Mr Burstow was joined by Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington as they met with travel advisers working on the project to learn more about personal travel plans to encourage people to walk, cycle or use public transport. Before visiting the roadshow, both MPs took part in a cycle ride organised by the Carshalton Rotary Club to raise money for Cancer research. The Smarter Travel team presented the two MPs with a cheque for £250 pounds for the cause. Commenting after the visit, Paul Burstow MP said: "It's great to see innovative projects like Smarter Travel coming to Sutton." "With the help of the personal travel plans which the team are designing with local people, people in Sutton can be both greener and healthier."
