Best Learner Awards

11.56.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 24th May 2007

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, will be attending the South London Best Learner Awards in the House of Lords today (Thursday 24th May 2007). This event is being held to celebrate the work of students in colleges throughout South London.

The Committee of South London Principals represents eighteen colleges across South London and each college has selected one student who has overcome formidable obstacles to receive an award.

This is the fifth year of the awards, which are held during Adult Learners' week. The awards will showcase the achievements of students as well as include a variety of presenters, including award winning artist Alison Lapper.

Mr Brake said, "I'm very proud of these students' achievements. It is important to celebrate their hard work and dedication and recognise their success formally."
