MP Backs Police Call For Vigilance Over Burglaries

11.46.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 1st May 2007

Barnes Safer Neighbourhood Team has issued advice to residents around safety and security following an increase in burglaries in the area and the local MP is urging people to follow the guidance.

Susan Kramer said:

"No doubt the early hot weather has offered burglars opportunities to get into homes due to open and unlocked windows.

"We all need to take extra care even if we are going out for a short time. The police are offering common sense advice around using window locks, keeping valuables out of the sight of prying eyes and turning on burglar alarms even though it may be for a brief period.

"Just as important is the issue of asking for proper photo id when someone calls claiming to be from the gas or electricity company who wants to gain entry to your home."
