MP Backs Local School's 'Better Diet' Drive

6.49.58pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 2nd Apr 2007

On Friday Vincent Cable MP was celebrity chef in a 15 minute race at Whitton School to cook a healthy meal. The event, organised by Whitton School and its caterers, was designed to highlight the need for better diets and too place in front of 250 children in the school hall.

Vincent Cable said: "In the last few years there has been a big step forward in understanding the importance of good diet for children: that lots of fatty food and sugar is bad for health, particularly if it is not balanced.

"It was very nerve wracking cooking a meal against the clock with lots of children shouting in the background. But my two helpers were very cool and well organised and we managed to turn out a decent vegetable balti with a few seconds to spare. All credit to Whitton School for organising an event of this kind and enthusing the children with it."
