Burstow sets up shop at local Supermarkets

6.31.47pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 2nd Apr 2007

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam has 'set up shop at local supermarkets to give local people the opportunity to raise their concerns with him at the most convenient times.

Mr Burstow, who already holds regular surgeries at local Libraries throughout the constituency, launched the initiative in an effort to make himself as accessible as possible to his constituents. Mr Burstow has met with people at both the ASDA store in Sutton High Street and the Salisbury's in North Cheam in recent weeks.

He hopes to expand the programme to include other local supermarkets in coming months, in an effort to be accessible throughout the constituency.

Speaking about the launch of his supermarket surgery initiative, Mr Burstow said:

"The most important part of my role as an MP is to communicate with local people, listening to their concerns and representing their needs to the government, the council and other groups."

"But many people's day to day lives are so busy, they often can't find the time to write, call or visit one of my regular surgeries, so I decided to come to them.

"By making myself available to local people at a time and place which is convenient to them, I hope to make myself accessible to those people who would otherwise not get to communicate with their MP."
