MP takes Kingston's case to the House of Commons12.42.13pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 14th Feb 2007 Kingston & Surbiton Liberal Democrat MP has been awarded a special debate on the floor of the house to raise the unfair grant settlement received by the Royal Borough of Kingston. Kingston council received a real terms cut in their grant this year, Edward Davey MP is alarmed that central government is effectively forcing spending cuts on the borough and preventing relief for the hard pressed council tax payer. Following briefings with Senior Council officers Mr Davey was keen to raise Kingston's special case and commentating on the news of the debate Edward Davey said, "It's time ministers realised the impact of their unfair decisions on local people. "Successive Governments have penalised Kingston with low grant levels - that only makes this years cutting grant even more appalling! "I am pleased I have won this opportunity to put Kingston's case and I would welcome any thoughts local people would like me to share with the minister to help achieve a fair deal for Kingston."
