Parking - Crouch End councillor calls for spirit of goodwill to prevail

12.20.18pm GMT Tue 19th Dec 2006

Lib Dem Cllr David Winskill has written to Haringey asking for a guarantee that any unwitting motorists parking outside Boots in Crouch End are not issued with a parking ticket, while a confusing situation persisted over Thames Water works in Crouch End's busy town centre.

The move follows a tip-off from Highgate resident Ralph Crisp that Thames Water had not stared scheduled mains replacement works outside Boots - but Haringey had suspended all four parking bays anyway. The works are part of the overall mains replacement project for the Hornsey Area - due to go into its third year in 2007.

Cllr Dave Winskill comments:

"It is clear that the works hadn't started and that the warning notices on posts had slipped. Some motorists, seeing no workmen and no signs, might use the bays and receive a ticket. I emailed the Head of Parking who tells me that Haringey "will look at cases on an individual basis and be considerate where appropriate." I hope that being appropriate means that they'll remember it's Christmas and not behave like Scrooges! Bah!"
