Paul Burstow MP posts his postcard to Allan Leighton, CEO of Royal Mail

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, has delivered his 'Proud to be Cheam' petition to Royal Mail boss Allan Leighton by posting a giant envelope from the post box in Cheam village. With over a thousand signatures on the petition, Mr Burstow wanted to be certain that the Royal Mail CEO didn't miss the petition.

Mr Burstow - who has been campaigning for postal recognition for Cheam for two years - recently quizzed Jim Fitzpatrick, the Minister responsible for the Royal Mail, about the contradictions in Royal Mail's position during a debate on the issue.

Speaking after sending off his petition, Paul Burstow MP said:

"This is one of the biggest petitions I have been involved with - so many Cheam people just can't understand why Royal Mail insist on us using Sutton as our address."

"People in Cheam are proud of our town - and want the Royal Mail to recognise Cheam in its own right not as part of Sutton."

Mr Burstow also announced the next stage of his campaign to secure postal recognition for his home town. He said:

"In January I will be asking every household in Cheam to send a postcard to Allan Leighton, CEO of Royal Mail."

"I hope to flood Mr Leighton's office with postcards to show him just how many people oppose his efforts to wipe Cheam off the map."
