4.42.12pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 30th Oct 2006

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, congratulated Overton Grange School on their efforts to promote the "Protecting Young Backs" campaign, during Back Care Awareness Week - 16th - 22nd October.

Mr Burstow - who has been working closely with the charity Back Care to promote the issue of back damage among school children - welcomed Overton Grange's commitment to dealing with issue.

On Monday, Mr Burstow tabled a motion in parliament to draw the attention of other MPs to the campaign. He also has plans to launch a cross-party group to promote the health and well-being of children, which will work on a range of issues, including back care.

During Back Care Awareness Week schools were encouraged to teach children the importance of looking after their backs, with a range of activities designed by Back Care to help get the message across.

Commenting on the campaign, Paul Burstow MP said:

"I am delighted that one of our local schools chose to get involved with this important campaign."

"Back trouble can start at a young age. Poor school furniture and heavy school bags can do long term harm."
