Campaigning for London in Parliament, in Europe and in the London Assembly

Back Garden Campaign Launched

4.01.39pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 25th Oct 2006

Sutton's Lib Dem MPs Tom Brake and Paul Burstow, Leader of Sutton Council, Sean Brennan, local Councillors and Ed Davey MP for Kingston and Surbiton joined forces to launch their Back Garden campaign last Saturday.

The launch took place in the back garden of Lord Graham Tope in Sutton.

The campaign spearheaded by Leslie Coman, until recently also a Sutton Councillor, which is to be rolled out nationally, seeks to change the planning status of back gardens. Currently they are considered brownfield sites in the same way as a site with a factory or warehouse making it easier for developers to build on them.
