Tom Brake MP and other volunteers picking litter

The banks of the River Wandle look that much cleaner after local residents, Councillors and Tom Brake, Liberal Democrat MP for Carshalton and Wallington, joined forces on Saturday 21st October 2006 in the afternoon for a community litter pick on a stretch of the River Wandle running from the bridge opposite Rochester Road to the Butter Hill bridge.

The litter pick was the first in a number of local events organised to celebrate Community Service Volunteers 'Make a Difference' Day on the 28th October.

The volunteers included local Cllrs John Drage, Bruce Glithero and his daughter, Joan Hartfield, David Theobald and local residents Muhammad Sadiq, Alan Salter, Anne Singleton and Jill Whitehead and Tom Brake MP

A number of large items which could not be removed have been reported to the Council and the Environment Agency, which is responsible for keeping the banks and river clean, has been asked to conduct a clean-up in the parts of the river and the river bank that are not accessible.
