Brake Visits Sutton Mencap After School Club8.11.52am GMT Thu 14th Sep 2006 The Club, which meets at 8 Stanley Park Road, provides activities and tea for pupils with learning disabilities from local schools such as Sherwood Park and Carew Manor. Barclays, their sponsor, also funds an annual trip to Chessington Zoo. Tom Brake commented after his visit, "It is clear that Mencap's After School Club provides many stimulating and fun activities for pupils. And it also provides a welcome opportunity for parents to catch up on other essential activities such as taking siblings out or simply catching up on shopping." Tom discussed with staff the experience they acquire as volunteers. This proves invaluable if they subsequently became paid members of staff. After tea, Tom was able to practise his football skills and help with playtime activities such as providing rides in carts.
