Samaritans

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington joined Croydon and Sutton Samaritans on Tuesday 5th September for a briefing on their life-saving activities and a short tour of their premises in Croydon.

During his visit Mr Brake, who met Deputy Directors Ann and Beryl and volunteer Baz, learnt that the Croydon and Sutton Samaritans 70 volunteers took around 20,000 calls in 2005 and expect to take more in 2006. The organisation survives thanks to the numerous local fund-raising activities which are required to pay the running costs.

Croydon's Mayor has chosen the Samaritans as one of the Mayor two charities for this year.

Any readers who feel they might be interested in joining the Samaritans as a volunteer should call their recruitment line in Croydon on 020 8681 6667 or the Croydon Help Line number 020 8681 6666.
