Brent is my home says Sarah

Brent's Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has announced her intention to stand for the new Brent Central constituency at the next General Election.

Following a ruling by the Boundary Commission, Brent East and Brent South will both be disbanded at the next General Election and will form new Brent Central and Hampstead and Kilburn constituencies. The majority of Brent East is moved into the new Brent Central seat.

Commenting on her decision, Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"Brent is my home. I live here, I have an office in Willesden Green and I'm a Brent MP. Brent Central is the natural choice for me as it is where the majority of my current seat will go.

"I look forward to the challenge that the General Election will bring in contesting the new seat. However, my top priority at the moment is not the General Election, but doing what I have always tried to do, which is to serve all those who I represent. Brent has many problems which I want to continue to take forward, such as the lack of affordable housing, a shortage of school places and cuts in local NHS services.

"Brent Central will be a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and Tony Blair's Labour. The Conservatives finished a poor third in both Brent East and Brent South at the last General Election. They have no councillors in Brent Central."
