Sarah Teather MP is fighting to safeguard the local Post Office network

Sarah Teather Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East is today asking how many more Brent Post Offices will close. Adam Crozier Chief Executive of Royal Mail has revealed that 10,500 Post Offices could close by 2010.

The local MP is writing to Adam Crozier to ask exactly what his plans are for Post Offices in Brent.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"Local residents were told during the last round of closures that they were necessary to sustain other local Post Offices in Brent. Now we hear the Chief Executive of Royal Mail saying that 10,500 Post Offices could close by 2010.

"Cutting the number of Post Offices by 10,500 will decimate the Post Office network. This will surely mean that more Post Offices will be lost in Brent. The Government cannot keep up it's 'Not me, Guv' attitude over this. For far too long the Labour Government has sat back and watched as our local Post Office network is systematically destroyed.

"Many poor and vulnerable people rely on the Post Office to collect their benefits and their pensions. The local Post Office is a valuable community resource and one which must be safeguarded."
