MP Backs Internet Project for Disabled2.05.49pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 8th Mar 2005 MP Vincent Cable is backing a new London charity which is trying to reach blind, deaf and physically disabled people in the borough, teaching them to use the Internet. The charity, U-Can Do I.T., provides short courses of accessible in-home, tuition helping disabled people to keep in touch via email, and 'surfing the internet'. Vincent Cable said: "all too often, IT has a mystique of complexity and anorakish language which serves as a barrier to people who are elderly or disabled who can derive enormous advantage from it. Although the Adult College now offers IT courses to older people there is still an access problem for the disabled who are trapped at home, and the in-house course idea is therefore very welcome".
