Sarah Teather is calling for the Government to do more to help our local police

Brent East MP and Liberal Democrat spokesperson for London Sarah Teather has urged the Government to do much more to tackle Gun Crime in Brent, following a tragic shooting in Griffin Close, Willesden Green this weekend.

Brent East MP Sarah Teather said:

"Obviously everybody's thoughts and condolences are at this time with the family. Incidents like this are sadly all too common in London. Just over a year on from the tragic death of Toni-Ann here in Brent, when there was an outpouring of grief from the local community, here we are again, with yet another pointless killing.

"I have been out on patrol with the local police looking for people with guns. I know the hard work that our local police force is putting in, but it is time that the Government backed them up with more action.

"The Government must do more to tackle the import of guns by establishing an effective single border control. Similarly there must be better policing of guns, gun parts and replica guns on the Internet. Guns are often bought in pieces but then put back together later to be used to take a life."
