END OF TERM REPORT FOR MAYOR - 'SEE ME' SAYS HUGHES11.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 8th Jun 2004
A new analysis revealed today by Liberal Democrat London Mayoral candidate, Simon Hughes, of the pledges made by Ken Livingstone in his 2000 Mayoral manifesto has found scores of pledges that he has failed to deliver. The 'End of Term Report', analyses the 89 pledges made in Mr Livingstone's manifesto before he became Mayor. Grading Mr Livingstone's performance over the term Mr Hughes found that Mr Livingstone achieved:- · 14 'A' grades · 10 'B' grades · 22 'C' grades · 40 'D' grades · 3 'E' grades Grades below C are where no progress had been made and nothing had been done. C grade was given when some work had been done over the four-year term, but little progress had been achieved. Commenting on the report, Simon Hughes said:- "If this was an end of term report for a school child the parents would be deeply worried by their lack of achievement. Teachers would call in the parents and the pupil and the report would have 'see me' scribbled in red pen all over the report card. "So many of the promises that Mr Livingstone pledged as an independent candidate in 2000 have never been delivered. Now that Mr Livingstone has re-joined the party that specialises in broken promises there is little chance that any new promises will be fulfilled if he became Mayor this time around. "There have been some successes but these have been promoted by Mr Livingstone's spin doctors to detract from his abject failures on scores of other promises he made four years ago. "Londoners need a Mayor that will be honest with them and deliver what they promise. I believe that it is time for a new Mayor for a Greater London that will deliver for the whole of London."
