LIVINGSTONE RAIL PROPOSALS NOTHING MORE THAN A PIPE DREAM

4.48.53pm GMT Tue 23rd Mar 2004

Commenting on Ken Livingstone's proposals to bring the London commuter rail commuter network under Transport for London, Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate, Simon Hughes, said:-

"The current Mayor's proposals to bring the commuter rail network under the wing of Transport for London does have some merits. The ability to co-ordinate Tube, train, tram and bus operations in the Capital under one organisation would ensure that London's passengers get a synchronised London service.

"However, until Mr Livingstone gets the parts of the transport network that are under his control working for Londoners, these proposals will be nothing more than a pipe dream."
