DELAYS BUILDING EAST LONDON LINE WOULD BE MADNESS

4.25.58pm GMT Tue 23rd Mar 2004

Simon has called for the east London Line to be built ASAP

Simon want no delays to building the East London Line Extension

Commenting on reports today of possible delays to the construction of the East London Line Extension, Liberal Democrat London Mayoral candidate, Simon Hughes, said:-

"It would be madness for the Government to think of putting the brakes on the building of the East London Line Extension. After so much hard work by so many people to get this project off the ground, Ministers must rethink any possible delay to the project.

"Time and again we have seen the Government stall on key infrastructure projects for the capital. From Crossrail to the East London Line Extension, Ministers have dithered and delayed.

"For all the promises of Blair's Mayor to work with Government to get key transport projects built, this would be yet another kick in the teeth for the capital's commuters and businesses."
