'SHARD OF GLASS' GOOD NEWS FOR LONDON

11.00.00am GMT Wed 19th Nov 2003

Commenting on the news that planning has been given the go-ahead for the shard of glass, Liberal Democrat MP for Southwark and Bermondsey and Mayoral candidate Simon Hughes MP said:-

"The London Bridge Tower is good news for Southwark and good news for London.

"This controversial but beautiful building will be of massive benefit to the south side of London. As the oldest gateway to the capital and one of the busiest commercial districts the 'shard of glass' will provide a welcome mix of office, residential and hotel accommodation to the area.

"The viewpoint and meditation centre at the top will provide a fantastic backdrop to the capital for tourists and Londoners alike."
